Depots

The whole fleet charged on time, within the grid connection limit

EcoStation distributes the available power between charging buses in real time. The system watches the connection limit, priorities and departure times, and the dispatcher sees everything on one screen.

The challenge

A depot is not a car park with chargers

  • Limited grid connection power

The total charger power exceeds what the grid operator provides. Without load management you have to choose which vehicles to charge.

  • Dozens of vehicles at once

Buses return in waves and leave according to the timetable. Each one needs its target energy on time.

  • Different hardware manufacturers

Chargers from successive tenders come from different suppliers. The system has to handle all of them.

  • Reporting requirements

The contracting authority expects energy, availability and session data ready for settlement.

The solution

Key features for bus depots

  • Dynamic load management

The algorithm distributes power between active points based on the connection limit, priorities and charging state. A limit change takes effect immediately.

  • Charging scheduling

A charging plan built from departure times and the energy each run needs. Every bus is ready on time, with no manual tracking.

  • Priorities and vehicle groups

Vehicles with an earlier departure get more power. Charger groups can have their own limits.

  • Vehicle preconditioning

Cabin and battery are heated or cooled before departure using grid power, not the battery. More range in winter and summer.

  • Plug&Charge

The bus is recognised automatically when the connector is plugged in, and charging starts without an RFID card or app. Every session is assigned to a vehicle.

  • Offline charger operation

If the connection to the system is lost, chargers keep charging buses, and session data reaches the panel once the connection is restored.

  • Live power view

Connection power chart, load per point and reserve visible in real time in the panel.

  • Integration over OCPP

AC and DC chargers from different manufacturers in one system. OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1, a diagnostic console for service.

  • Energy and availability reports

Energy consumption per station, location and period. Point availability and OCPP event history for settlements with the contracting authority.

Schedules and power

Every bus charged for its departure

EcoStation knows each vehicle’s departure time and battery level. From that it builds a charging plan and distributes grid connection power in real time, so every bus has the energy for its run exactly when it leaves.

  • Charging plan from the departure schedule

Departure time and the energy needed for the run determine when and how fast each bus charges.

  • Priorities recalculated live

When a bus returns with a low battery and an early departure, the system moves it straight to the front of the queue and gives it full power.

  • Grid limit always respected

Total power never exceeds the grid connection. The other buses wait or keep charging at lower power.

Deployment model

In the cloud or in your own infrastructure

The same system with the same features. Choose the model that fits your organisation’s IT and security requirements.

  • Cloud

We run the system for you.

    • Start without buying servers or building infrastructure
    • Updates and new features rolled out automatically
    • Monitoring, backups and scaling handled by us
    • New depots and locations added quickly
  • On-premise

The system runs on your organisation’s servers.

    • Fleet and energy data never leave your infrastructure
    • Meets internal security policies and tender requirements
    • Works on an isolated network, independent of internet access
    • Integrates with internal systems on the local network

Implementation

From audit to go-live

  1. 1

    Audit

We analyse grid connection power, the departure schedule, the fleet and existing chargers.

  2. 2

    Configuration design

We define limits, groups, priorities and reporting rules.

  3. 3

    Charger integration

We connect stations over OCPP and test communication with every point.

  4. 4

    Go-live and training

Assisted production start, training for dispatchers and service staff.

  5. 5

    Maintenance

Monitoring, updates and technical support under the agreement.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about depots

Yes, if they support OCPP 1.6 or 2.0.1. Before implementation we verify every model on a test bench.
